• Although it technically happened December 31, Obie Trice becomes the first rapper reported shot in 2006. Trice was driving with his girlfriend on a Detroit highway when a bullet ripped through the back window of his ride. The wounded rapper managed to get to a hospital, where he was treated and released. Police didn’t offer specific details regarding the injury or shooting.

• Radric “Gucci Mane” Davis becomes the first rapper to beat murder charges in 2006. Gucci Mane was accused of killing rapper Henry “Pookie Loc” Clark last May 10, but prosecutors dropped the charges due to lack of evidence. Mane claimed he shot the other rapper in self-defense. For now, Mane continues to stew in an Atlanta jail for attacking a promoter with a pool cue last June. Mane should be set free in January. Which may make him the first rapper released from prison in 2006.

• Supermodel Beverly Peele may be eligible to appear in a Citibank identity theft commercial. Peele was charged with using someone else’s credit cards to buy about $10,000 worth of merchandise. Then she bought a refrigerator, washer and dryer, furniture and more. Hell, most folks would be happy to change identities with Beverly Peele.

But on the other hand, what the hell took so long?” Maybe legislators were waiting for input from the Queer Eye team.

• Happy Birthday, Kathleen Casey-Kirschling — the woman recognized as America’s first Baby Boomer. The New Jersey resident celebrated her 60th birthday today. Besides the folks in her immediate family, it’s doubtful any Xers wanted to participate in the festivities.
