Essay 469

A slow news day, a short MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Young Jeezy allegedly participated in a shootout with his friends on Saturday. Police busted the rapper for having two guns without a permit. Actually, it all started with a street brawl involving associates. A passer-by filmed the altercation, but refused to hand over his video camera, which led to gunfire. Given the rapid escalation of violence, it’s a good thing Young Jeezy wasn’t packing nuclear devices.

• Jay-Z is involved in a non-violent shootout. The rap mogul is judging a contest to create a hip-hop anthem for the New Jersey Nets, the NBA team he co-owns. About 600 wannabe rappers submitted entries. Which means it all may ultimately end in gunfire.
